Summary:
Supports the surgical team and assists with patient care in the operating room by effectively handling the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during surgical procedures.
Applies knowledge and training to ensure quality patient care during the operative procedure, anticipates the surgical team's needs, and maintains the sterile field.
Duties and
Responsibilities:
1.
Assists the surgical team by acting as the primary scrub person who handles the instruments, supplies, and equipment during surgical procedures.
2.
Assesses the comprehensive nursing needs of an assigned group of patients.
Functions as a patient advocate.
Provides individualized patient and family-focused care throughout the patient's stay and evaluates for effectiveness.
3.
Accurately and effectively anticipates changes in patient care needs.
Communicates and documents changes in patient condition, on a timely basis, to charge nurse/supervisor and physician.
4.
Participates in patient and family education as evidenced by teaching documentation with appropriate resources.
5.
Initiates effective discharge and referral plans on admission utilizing appropriate hospital and community resources.
6.
Delegates patient care activities to appropriate personnel and maintains accountability for those activities.
Assists other nursing team members through the steps of the nursing process.
7.
Performs all aspects of patient care in a manner that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors; documents according to established standards; communicates effectively.
8.
Develops and maintains professional and clinical skills.
Completes all annual competency and education requirements within established parameters and timeframes.
Participates in staff meetings, patient care meetings, educational in-services and other professional activities.
Maintains awareness of policies and procedures and performance standards.
9.
Performs other related duties and special projects as assigned.

Required Education and
Experience:
1.
Completion of an accredited training program in Surgical Technology.
2.
One year of operating room experience.
Required Licenses, Certifications and/or Registrations:
1.
Current Surgical Technician registration in the state of Washington 2.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification 3.
Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) preferred.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
